Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 June 2026

éist (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a local-first podcast player for Apple platforms. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. We aim to collect as little as possible.

The short version

  • There is no account to create, and we do not run a server that collects your listening activity.
  • Your subscriptions, playback positions, bookmarks and listening statistics are stored locally on your device.
  • If you turn on sync, that data is stored in your own personal cloud storage, not ours.
  • We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Data the app stores on your device

  • Podcasts you follow and any feeds or audio you add yourself.
  • Playback progress, completion, bookmarks and listening statistics.
  • App settings and preferences.

Optional cloud sync

To keep your library in step across your own devices, éist offers optional sync. When enabled, the app reads and writes a small set of data files (the items listed above) to a private storage area in a cloud account you connect. You can disable sync at any time. We do not have access to your cloud account.

Google API Services — Limited Use disclosure

If you choose to sync with Google Drive, éist requests access only to a private, app-specific folder (the Google Drive appDataFolder) via the drive.appdata scope. This folder is hidden from your normal Drive files and is only accessible to éist.

éist’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We use Google Drive data only to provide and improve the app’s sync feature.
  • We do not transfer this data to others except as needed to provide the feature, for security, or to comply with law.
  • We do not use this data for advertising.
  • We do not allow humans to read this data unless we have your consent for specific support, it is necessary for security, or required by law.

The data stored in the Google Drive app folder is your éist library and listening data; éist does not read any other files in your Google Drive. You can revoke éist’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app may send you alerts about new episodes of podcasts you follow. You can turn these off in your device settings.

Analytics & tracking

The app does not include third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. Apple may provide aggregate, anonymous crash and usage information if you have opted in to share it with developers in your device settings.

Children

éist is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “last updated” date.
